Cateogory: Water Gardening -> Fun Stuff!
Name: Low cost Water spitter instructions
Description: Need a lost cost water spitter? Take a plastic flower pot (any shape & size you want-the one used here is called a Grecian Urn), drill a hole in the side where you want the water to come out, or at the bottom (it will be the top of the spitter). The hole needs to be the same size as the flexible tubing O.D. that you will be using. Cover all remaining drainage holes. Push the flexible tubing thru the hole, leaving about 2 inches outside of the pot. The tail of the tube can be as long as desired. Just make sure you have enough to stick out beyond the pot rim. At this point I added some coarse sand at the bottom of the pot to fill in the small ring for the side spitter, no sand for the center spitter. Mix concrete according to instructions, adding concrete color if desired, pat into the pot. Make sure to get out any air pockets. Level off with the top of the pot. Let dry for at least 7 days. After dry, turn pot upside down to releash the concrete. You may have to run the pot under hot water to expand it in case the cement sticks. Cut off any excess tubing. Hook up tubing to pump & you get an inexpensive spitter. Cost: $2.50 cement + $3.50 Grecian Urn flower pot + $1 24" tubing + tax = $7.50 total for 1, less if you reuse the pot & extra cement. This particular pot came with a base, so the base can also be used as a mold. You will be able to make several spitters from one bag of cement.
